Congregational & Community Breakfast
Saturday 24 August started early — at 9am — for people looking forward to breakfasting on the results of Peter Dittman’s expert cooking. But for Bob Schimpf, who personally provides the ingredients at his own expense, and Peter it started much earlier. On Breakfast mornings Bob arrives at 6a.m. to start preparing to cook. On this Sunday, Bob and Peter were ably assisted by Rob Wilkinson (and Jupiter) in setting up tables and chairs for the expected ~14 people. But the cooks made allowance for up to 20 hungry mouths, and that’s exactly how many came and enjoyed a simple breakfast of egg, toast, sausage and hashbrowns, wrapping up with a thoughtful devotion on the diversity of gifts in our community.
The free-will offering taken up at congregational breakfasts is set apart for outreach ministry, especially for providing hospitality to neighbours in need. Bob is looking forward to an evening later in the fall, where people can come and have some food and some fun music without having to worry about it costing anything. There’ll be a silent auction at the event for those who do have some money to spend, and any income from that will be added back into the ministry of hospitable outreach.
