Is it Summer yet?

With daily high temperatures less than 20 degrees over the last couple of weeks,  we could be forgiven for thinking that it’s still May, with three sunny months of Summer ahead to enjoy. But in fact, the last Sunday of July is behind us. Calgary schools reopen for the 2025-2026 school year at the end of the coming month. There, I did it: I typed “2026” in a practical context. Time is flying!

The start of the school year marks an end to family camping; to summer vacation and travel. For young adults it’s the return from summer jobs and the transition to trade school, college and university. There’s a special energy in the neighbourhood as everyone makes fresh starts and takes on new challenges. At Emmanuel, we will celebrate the post-summer return to the harness with “Reunion and Open House Sunday”. We’ve held Reunion Sunday in the past, but this year we’re extending the invitation beyond old friends and former members, to include new friends and current neighbours.

“Reunion and Open House Sunday”will be September 7, with worship at 10:30am, followed by potluck supper at approximately noon. In between, we invite you to come and tour our building. Take in our new Art Hall. Come and see our innovative Montessori children’s programme. Meet the principals of the music school we will be partnering with in 2025-2026; and the changes we are making as Emmanuel Community Church repositions for growth. It’s an exciting time in the church’s life! We hope to see you there, and we hope you will invite your friends and family to see it all too.
